The long-awaited establishment of a state-of-the-art Medical College Hospital at the Nagaland Institute of Medical Science and Research (NIMSR), Kohima has officially commenced, marking a significant milestone in Nagaland’s healthcare and medical education sector.

The Department of Health & Family Welfare, in collaboration with Nippon Koei India Pvt. Ltd., the Project Management Consultancy (PMC) firm, formally launched the project under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) ODA Loan scheme with a two-day Kick-Off Meeting on May 6–7.

The meeting, chaired by the Commissioner & Secretary of Health & Family Welfare, brought together the Project Executive Committee, Project Management Unit (PMU), and other senior departmental officials to discuss the project’s scope, stakeholder responsibilities, and required support mechanisms.

A site visit to the proposed location was also conducted to assess on-ground conditions and facilitate planning for the next phase of project execution.

This development marks a major step forward in strengthening medical education and delivery of quality healthcare in Nagaland.
