The Konyak Union (KU) has raised concern over what it termed as the state government’s continued inaction on the proposed martyrs’ park at Oting, cautioning that the delay could trigger “unwanted situations” in the region.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the union said that despite land already being allotted for the memorial to victims of the 2021 Oting incident, construction has been held up due to objections from the 42 Assam Rifles.

The KU said it had been pursuing the matter with the government since February 2026 through official channels but had yet to receive any response.

It also pointed to an April 21 meeting in Mon involving KU representatives and senior security officials, including the Commanding Officer of 42 Assam Rifles and the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North), which failed to produce any breakthrough.

Calling the issue sensitive, the union said the memorial carries significance not only for the families of those killed but also for future generations. It urged the government to intervene and resolve the matter without further delay.

Stating that patience was wearing thin, the KU said it would move ahead with construction of the park. It added that any consequences arising from the situation would not be its responsibility.

On infrastructure, the union expressed support for the proposed upgrading of stretches of the Nagaland Foothills Road in Mon district into National Highways, provided compensation is given to affected landowners as per norms.

At the same time, it flagged concerns over the quality and pace of ongoing works along the foothills road, especially in the Tizit–Tekun–Tiru–Naginimora stretch.

The KU said parts of the road remain in poor condition even after a year of construction, creating difficulties for commuters.

It further noted that the issue had been raised during a state government meeting on April 7, and called for faster execution of works, including completion of pending components such as the RCC bridge at Chainage 16.
