The Konyak Union (KU) on Friday paid a courtesy call on Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio at his office in the State Secretariat, Kohima, and reiterated its demand for the creation of new districts through the bifurcation of Mon District.
Led by KU President K Yamao Konyak, the delegation submitted a reminder letter to the Chief Minister, stressing that the demand reflects “the collective aspiration and mounting pressure from the grassroots populace” who have been consistently advocating for administrative decentralization.
The KU highlighted that Mon district, because of its vast geographical expanse, difficult terrain, and growing population, continues to face administrative bottlenecks under the current district structure.
It maintained that the creation of new districts is crucial for equitable development, efficient governance, and improved accessibility to public services.
Yamao Konyak also apprised the Chief Minister of prevailing security concerns in the Tizit–Tiru–Naginimora border region and sought urgent government intervention. The Union further urged the State Government to expedite completion of the Nagaland Foothills Road project, noting that Konyak people still face immense hardship travelling through Assam highways.
The Chief Minister, while congratulating the newly inducted KU team led by President Yamao Konyak, assured the Union of his support and necessary interventions to address the concerns of the Konyak people.
