MLA of Arunachal Pradesh, Thangwang Wangham, graced the Konyak Aoleang Monyu cum Mini Hornbill Festival 2026 as the special guest on April 2 at Konyak Heritage Complex, Mon. President, Eastern Sumi Hoho, K Tokishe Sema attended as the guest of honour, while MLA Y Mankhao Konyak was the chief host.
Extending festive greetings, Wangham said he was honoured to be part of the celebration and added that he had come not as a special guest but as a brother. “The Land of Angh is not just hosting a festival, but witnessing a grand coming together of people from neighbouring states and across the region in the spirit of unity,” he said, adding that such moments remind people that divisions are only political boundaries on paper. Congratulating ENPO for signing the FNTA, he urged the public to work with dedication for development and encouraged the younger generation to be educated, skilful and creative.
Guest of honour Tokishe Sema said the celebration reflected the rich heritage, tradition and unity of the Konyak community. Chief host Y Mankhao Konyak spoke on the significance of Aoleang Monyu.
EAC Mon, Shekhozo Vero, NCS, said the Konyak Union has played a vital role in guiding the community while preserving its cultural heritage. He noted that the successful conduct of the festival reflects the organisation’s vision and commitment.
The programme began with a traditional welcome ceremony, ceremonial opening by Tonyei Phawang, Pongvun Wang of Longwa, and the beating of the log drum by Mon Union, Mon Town.
Cultural performances were presented by groups from Arunachal Pradesh and various Konyak units, while special numbers added to the celebration. The event was chaired by Manjun and Manyei Kuhmeishu N, with invocation by Rev. L. Metjen. Welcome and vote of thanks were delivered by K Yamao Konyak and Wangchung Konyak respectively, while the benediction was pronounced by Rev E Yeangphong Konyak.
