Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Mokokchung conducted Front Line Demonstration (FLD) trainings on popularization of Soil Moisture Indicator at Satsü, Kinunger, Tuli and Aliba where a total of 74 farmers attended the program during second fortnight of October and first fortnight of November.
FLD is a mandated activity of the Kendra, where proven agricultural technologies are demonstrated for adoption by the farmers. As such, Front Line Demonstration on using the Soil Moisture Indicator (SMI) for scheduling irrigation in winter vegetables was conducted for the farmers.
Imtilemla (ACTO-Soil Conservation) highlighted the importance of using the SMI which is a technology developed by Tech Source Solutions, Bangalore which gives instant indication of the moisture status of the soil. She stated that with the use of this technology the farmers will be able to monitor the soil moisture levels for effective irrigation water management and will help the farmers in saving water, time and pumping costs during the cultivation of the winter crops.
“The demonstration on how to use this SMI was demonstrated for better understanding of the technology, and the Kendra distributed this SMI to the farmers for using it in their fields as a part of the FLD program,” an update received here said.
