Zunheboto, 4 May (MTNews): Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Zunheboto, Nagaland University organized a poultry input distribution program for women SHG groups at Sumisettsu Village under Akuluto block, Zunheboto, sponsored by NABARD, Dimapur.
This program is an initiative of KVK, Zunheboto, sponsored by NABARD under the program titled “Promoting sustainable livelihood and nutritional security of women SHGs through low-cost egg incubator and backyard poultry production” in Zunheboto district of Nagaland. The objective is to update farmers’ knowledge and skills in raising birds, egg production, and hatching chicks through low-cost incubators.
The program was attended by Mr. Poji, Assistant General Manager, NABARD, who emphasized the importance of the program for women SHGs, its potential benefits, and urged farmers to ensure its sustainability through proper bird management for egg and chick production.
Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Principal Scientist and Head, urged farmers to ensure the success and replicability of the program in other villages, highlighting that the chicks obtained after hatching would serve as a source of quality chicks for other villagers. He thanked the NABARD GM for providing such a project to uplift the socio-economic condition of the farming community.
To enhance the program’s effectiveness and success, 20 women from different SHGs were provided with Rainbow rooster chicks, feeds, drinkers, and feeders on May 3, 2024, at Sumisettsu Village.
