Liverpool clinched the Premier League title for the 2024-25 season with a resounding 5-1 victory over Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday, securing their 20th English top-flight crown, matching Manchester United’s record. The win confirmed that second-placed Arsenal can no longer catch them, and the jubilant home crowd of over 60,000 celebrated a historic moment.

The match started with an electric atmosphere, heightened by the rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” as the players took to the pitch. Liverpool looked dangerous early on, with Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo both testing Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. However, Tottenham briefly dampened the spirits when Dominic Solanke scored a header in the 12th minute, giving them a surprise lead.

But Liverpool responded swiftly. Luis Diaz equalized in the 16th minute after converting Dominik Szoboszlai’s cross, with VAR confirming the goal despite an offside flag. Liverpool then took control, with Alexis Mac Allister’s powerful strike putting them ahead in the 24th minute. Gakpo added another soon after, and Salah’s clinical finish made it 4-1 in the second half. Tottenham’s woes were compounded when defender Destiny Udogie scored an own goal to seal the 5-1 victory.

The result leaves Liverpool 15 points clear of Arsenal with four games to go, and Tottenham languishing in 16th place. The win marks a triumph for manager Arne Slot, who succeeded Jurgen Klopp in June 2024, guiding the team to the title with stellar performances despite doubts over squad transitions and player futures.
