The Langpangkong Students’ Conference (LKM) stated on Sunday that ‘concerns have arisen’ regarding the NH-2 lane passing through Langpangkong, involving both the LKM and the LKM Road Coordinator Committee (LKMRCC).

The LKM stated in a press release that the construction by KKB Rülho Construction Company has come under scrutiny for inadequate progress, prompting extensive discussions. It said that a deadline of July 30, 2024, was set for the Deputy Commissioner to address the issue and ensure proper work is completed. The LKM said it had issued a warning of potential consequences if improvements were not made.

In response, LKM said a meeting was convened by the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung on July 29 at the DC conference hall, during which Rülho Construction Company requested an extension until August 8. It was subsequently agreed that stakeholders, including the LKM, would inspect the road on August 9.

Consequently, “the assessment on August 9, involving LKM, LKMRCC, the PWD (NH), the authority engineer, and KKB Rülho Construction Company, revealed positive changes along the Unger to Tuli Tzürangra stretch, prompting expressions of gratitude,” LKM said. However, it said that concerns remain regarding the quality of workmanship, “leading to a call for the Naga people to preserve and enhance their land rather than harm it.”

“In  a show of unity displayed by various segments of society joining hands, the Langpangkong Students’ Conference (LKM) remains resolute, fortified and appreciative,” it said. The LKM also warned against any disruptions by individuals or groups during the ongoing road construction, stating that LKM is ready to take necessary action.

“LKM President Mr. Imlinok, in a firm address to the company, the authority engineer, and the Department representatives, stressed the need for swift and proper completion of the work,” the press release added.

It further said that the LKM stands prepared to enforce measures if the work does not meet expected standards in the future. “Any disruptions will trigger the LKM’s independent action, emphasizing the project’s critical importance,” it cautioned. It also said that the letter submitted to the Deputy Commissioner on July 26, 2024, “retains its significance until the specified work is satisfactorily completed.”
