Mokokchung, November 25 (MTNews): The Watsü Center for Women Development was inaugurated by the Director of Women Resource Development Vilone Sakhrie at WRC Marepkong in Mokokchung on November 23, 2022.

While inaugurating the Centre, Sakhrie apprised the gathering that the inaugural of the center was delayed due to the pandemic and post-pandemic difficulties. Nevertheless, he assured that various women-centric programs and activities shall be implemented as per the needs and requirements of the district in due course of time.

 

He further added that Watsü Mungdang is a highly respected and recognized women organization in the state which is tirelessly working for the uplift of women and that the department always looks forward to work in joint ventures with the Watsü Mungdang even in the days to come.

 

Also, while applauding the Department’s long partnership with the Watsü Mungdang for implementing various programs in the district, and sensing the need to upgrade the skills and activities of the women in the district, he further assured that in line with the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two parties, various collaborative activities will be charted and implemented accordingly.

 

S. Arenla Longkumer, President of Watsü Mungdang in her speech said that the inauguration of this center was a long awaited dream come true in the history of Watsü Mungdang and gave a brief description of how the concept of the Women Resource Centre, Mokokchung was conceived and pursued by Watsü Mungdang. She informed that the Watsü Center for Women Development was the resolution which was made during its silver jubilee held in April of 2007.

 

“The detailed project report was submitted to Dr Syeda Hameed who was Member, Planning Commission, Government of India during that time and who was also the Guest of Honour at the silver jubilee,” she said.
Elaborating on the vision of Watsü Mungdang about the future programs and activities to be taken up, she said that by inaugurating the center, the Watsü Mungdang can now provide facilities for learning and cater to youth, particularly women, by creating avenues like cultural tourism which would also include training component and skill building.

 

During the closing remarks, T. Thungbemo Patton, WRDO & Officer In-charge Mokokchung informed that the basic foundation of cooperation between the Department and Watsü Mungdang shall be based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two parties on February 20 of 2020 in the Office Chamber of the Commissioner & Secretary, Women Resource Development.

 

He also informed that apart from the clause reflected in the MoU, for the mutual benefit of both the parties to bring socio-economic empowerment in Nagaland, both parties will work together in various areas in the future.
The inaugural program was followed by the training of 30 beneficiaries on Post-Harvest, Processing, and Value Addition under the initiatives of Nzanthung K Yanthan, Assistant Director & Officer In-charge of Food Processing.
