Chepe-ü Koza, Forest Range Officer of Longleng Range, highlighted the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” mission in her brief message. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Environment Day 2024, this campaign encourages tree planting as a tribute to both our Mother and Mother Nature. She explained that the initiative aims to combat climate change and promote a greener, more sustainable future. Koza praised the Lemsachenlok Society and the Auching Students’ Union for their active role in environmental protection and for leading this plantation drive. She also urged the local community to care for the newly planted trees, perform timely weeding, and ensure the trees thrive to support environmental nurturing.

Dr Y Nuklu Phom, Team Leader of Lemsachenlok, expressed gratitude to the Longleng Forest Division and Auching Students’ Union for their support in organizing the plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. He commended the Department’s continued support for various plantation efforts by the Lemsachenlok Society. Dr Phom noted that during the drive, four to five indigenous species of tree saplings were planted to provide fruits for humans and animals, promote fast growth, and enhance groundwater revival in the region. He reported that since May 2024, Lemsachenlok has planted over 700,000 trees in Longleng District, with hopes that these plantations will mature and support the ecosystem long-term.

In total, 500 saplings were planted along roadways and in open areas around the village. The drive saw active participation from 80 individuals, including Forest Department officers and staff, Lemsachenlok team members, students, and local elders.
