MLA & Chairman of Noklak DPDB, P Longon, graced the 61st Assembly Cum Special Session of the Khiamniungan Students’ Union held under the theme ‘Learn and Lead’ as the special guest on 17 January 2024 at Thoktsur (Longsingking) village.
Addressing the gathering, Longon said that he is blessed with many opportunities to serve the Khiamniungan people in different capacities—as a student leader, as a tribe leader, and as an elected representative. He expressed gratitude to God and his people for being elected for the fourth time.
Appreciating fellow legislator Benei M Lamthiu for various reasons and commitment to serve the people, he urged the gathering to extend cooperation and support to him. He also encouraged him to work hard and be a man of action. Longon also called upon the people to uplift the Khiamniungans for a vibrant society.
Longon also mentioned that, together with Benei M Lamthiu, they will address the longstanding grievances of Longsingking.
He expressed love and regret for the sadness of past years, urging the gathering to forget and forgive the bitter past and reconcile for a better society.
Asserting that the present generation has no place for violence, he urged the removal of all fear psychosis and emphasized living in peace and prosperity.
MLA Benei M Lamthiu, who was the guest of honour, stated that Longsingking Village has set a good example—where there is unity, there is peace, purpose, and development.
He assured to fulfill the grievances of his people to the best of his ability and urged the gathering to cooperate with the representative and the government.
Earlier, President Khiamniungan Students Union, Noklak Shangchiu unveiled the Monolith in commemoration of its 61st Federal Assembly Cum Special Session and was dedicated by Haimong pastor Peshu Baptist Doathi.
Other highlights of the program were short speeches by president KTC, a welcome note by Chairman Thoktsur village council, felicitation by the Education Secretary, KSU while the presidential address was delivered by President KSU. The comperes of the program were Miss Niamkoi and Mongchon P.
SDO Civil, Thonoknyu, and many party workers attended the Special Session. Folk song and dance were performed by the host village.
