Mokokchung, August 12 (MTNews): At least 12 families were forced to vacate their homes in Mangkolemba Town on Friday as a result of flash flood accompanied by landslide which was triggered by incessant and heavy rains, an official said.

 

 

According to T Lankonsen Tsanglao, ADC Mangkolemba, the 12 houses which are located in a sloping terrain of a known sinking zone in ward no. 1 has been rendered uninhabitable. Eight houses have been completely damaged while the four houses standing have been partially damaged by the landslide which has developed cracks and are likely to collapse, he said.

 

 

While speaking to Mokokchung times, the ADC revealed that the displaced families have made their own arrangements and are being accommodated by their relatives.
Meanwhile, the Mangkolemba-Mongchen Road which was covered by landslides was completely cleared by ANK construction company but the local road to Mokokchung via Khar would likely be cleared only after the Independence Day celebrations conclude, Tsanglao said.

 

 

The ADC also mentioned that the repairs to the culvert bridge that was left damaged on Wednesday was completed around 1 AM, Thursday morning using logs that were generously donated by a local who is a native of Khar Village. With the temporary repairs been done by the Public Works Department, a fuel tanker has also arrived in the town, he said.
