A programme for the distribution of IT equipment under Phase I of the Birth Registration Based Aadhaar Enrolment initiative was held at the Office of the District Economics and Statistics, Mokokchung on Monday.

Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Economics and Statistics, Akunu S Meyase, along with Director, Department of Economics and Statistics, Nagaland, Neidilhou Keditsu, and Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, during the programme for distribution of IT equipment (Phase I) under the Birth Registration Based Aadhaar Enrolment initiative on April 13, 2026, at the Office of the District Economics and Statistics, Mokokchung.

Addressing the gathering, Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Economics and Statistics, Akunu S. Meyase, said the initiative carries significant responsibility as birth and death registration is one of the most important legal documents for an individual. “It is a huge responsibility entrusted to the department by the government,” she said. She noted that while online registration had been introduced in other parts of the country during 2022–23, Nagaland has lagged behind due to various challenges.

Meyase further informed that the state has received only 300 units of equipment against nearly 1,000 registration centres. “The allocation has been prioritised for centres that are active and on board,” she said.

Under Phase I, Mokokchung district has been allotted 29 units. She urged all stakeholders to ensure proper care and effective utilisation of the equipment to strengthen the registration system in the district.
