The Principal District and Sessions Judge/Special Judge (POCSO), Mokokchung, has convicted one Ram Palat Gupta in connection with a 2022 case involving culpable homicide and aggravated sexual assault, sentencing him to 30 years of rigorous imprisonment.

The judgement and order was passed on April 10 by Victo Sema.

According to the order, the accused was found guilty under Section 304 Part I of the IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The court sentenced him to undergo 30 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 5,000.

The case relates to an incident on February 16, 2022, at Longnak village in Mokokchung district, where the accused had allegedly set his wife on fire, leading to her death. He was also found guilty of committing aggravated penetrative sexual assault on his minor daughter.

The case was investigated by the Officer-in-Charge of Women Police Station, Achila, while the State was represented by Special Public Prosecutor/Assistant Public Prosecutor M Temjenwathy Imsong and B Langshen.
