Mokokchung, 21 September (MTNews): Peyao Konyak, a resident of Mon District, Nagaland, who was reportedly thought to have been abducted on 20 September 2023 by unidentified miscreants in Yairipok, Thoubal district of Manipur, has been found today, September 21.
According to Nagaland Deputy CM, Y Patton, during his telephonic conversation with the Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh, he learned that Konyak went missing under the influence of drugs. Konyak was further reported to have been admitted to a rehabilitation center for necessary care and support.
“Had a telephonic conversation with the CM of Manipur, Shri @NBirenSingh Ji. It has been learned that Shri Peyao Konyak, who was previously reported missing, has been located. It has been learned that he had gone missing under the influence of drugs. He has been admitted to a rehabilitation center for the necessary care and support. My gratitude to Shri Biren Singh Ji and @manipur_police for the swift and effective action in ensuring his safety,” Dy CM Patton tweeted.
Konyak is an employee of Victoria Veener Mills. According to earlier reports, an FIR was filed by the owner of the Mill, stating that Konyak had been abducted by unidentified miscreants in the Yairipok area.
It may also be recalled that the Konyak Union, earlier today, on his behalf, issued a press statement appealing to the Government of Nagaland to intervene. Following this, Deputy CM Patton tweeted that Konyak is ‘now safe in police custody.’
Meanwhile, according to HY News, a media company based in Imphal, Manipur, Konyak was found at New Dream Rehab Centre at Changangei Makha Leikai, Imphal West, by the police. It was reported that upon verification with his family, the person’s identity was confirmed, and after observing due formalities, the individual was handed over to his family. The report further added that Imphal East police officials began searching for the person at different locations along with other district police. “And today, at about 1:55 pm, the person was found in the rehab centre,” the report added.
