Following the destructive fire that swept through the MMC Complex in Mokokchung town on 3 February 2024, the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) has expressed its deepest sorrow and concern to the affected traders and conveyed unwavering solidarity with its members who have faced losses.

First floor of the MMC Complex was completely destroyed in the February 3 fire accident

In a press release, MCCI said it stands in solidarity with the impacted traders, who are members of the chamber, and that it has recognized the profound impact this incident has had on their businesses and livelihoods.

The chamber has assured its members of steadfast support during the recovery process. It said that the fire resulted in the “complete destruction of approximately 78 businesses on the first floor of the complex,” adding that the remaining shops in the complex have been “adversely affected by heat and smoke, rendering their products unsaleable.” While no injuries were reported, the financial losses are likely to be enormous, it added.

Pending the official investigation report on the fire’s cause, the MCCI demanded “fair and expeditious compensation for the aggrieved traders to help them rebuild their businesses and lives.”
