90-day drive aims to settle disputes through mediation across courts
A 90-day statewide mediation drive aimed at reducing court pendency and promoting amicable dispute resolution has been launched in Nagaland under the national campaign ‘Mediation for the Nation 2.0’.
The initiative has been conceptualised by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in association with the Mediation & Conciliation Project Committee of the Supreme Court of India.
Following the nationwide implementation of ‘Mediation for the Nation 1.0’ in 2025, the second edition will run for 90 days beginning March 2026, covering Taluk Courts, District Courts and High Courts across the country.
In Nagaland, the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) reported that during the previous campaign, 90 cases were amicably settled out of 397 matters referred by District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) and the High Court Legal Services Committee.
For the 2.0 campaign, NSLSA has directed all DLSAs in the state to intensify mediation efforts to resolve pending cases during the 90-day drive.
Categories of cases eligible for mediation include matrimonial disputes, accident claims, domestic violence cases, cheque bounce cases, commercial disputes, service matters, compoundable criminal cases, consumer disputes, partition and eviction matters, land acquisition cases and other suitable civil cases.
Advocates, litigants and members of the public have been encouraged to take advantage of the campaign and voluntarily refer eligible cases for mediation.
For assistance, individuals may approach DLSA front offices at District Court premises or the NSLSA office in Kohima. The NALSA toll-free helpline 15100 and NSLSA helpline 9118003453883 have also been made available for queries.
