Meghalaya moved closer to securing a spot in the final round of the 78th Senior Men’s National Football Championship (Santosh Trophy) 2024-25 with a commanding 3-0 win against Nagaland in Nalbari, Assam, on Friday.
Donlad Diengdoh opened the scoring in the 21st minute, followed by captain Fullmoon Mukhim doubling the lead five minutes later. Substitute Fairming Suting put the result beyond doubt with an 87th-minute strike.
With two consecutive victories, including a win over Arunachal Pradesh earlier, Meghalaya tops Group E with 6 points. They need just a draw against Assam on Sunday to guarantee their place in the final round.
Nagaland, who defeated Assam in their opener, will next face Arunachal Pradesh on November 24. Meanwhile, Assam’s 4-0 win over Arunachal today keeps their hopes alive, setting up a high-stakes clash against Meghalaya.
If Assam beats Meghalaya and Nagaland triumphs over Arunachal, the group could see a three-way tie at 6 points, making Sunday’s matches crucial. Only the top team from each group will progress to the Santosh Trophy final round.
