Mokokchung, August 16 (MTNews): A Community Hall and Multi-Purpose Building was inaugurated by guest of honour Metsübo Jamir, Minister of Rural Development at Mongsenbai Ward, Mokokchung while Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly attended the program as special guest.
Metsübo Jamir during his inaugural address commended former Minister, Lt. Nungshizenba for donating the site on which the building was constructed, and he went on to appreciate everyone who helped make the structure a reality.
He emphasized on the importance of town planning in light of the increased number of motor vehicles, citing the narrow road from Police Point to Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School as an example, and urged the ward chairmen to oversee the road system in their respective wards so that Mokokchung does not become like Kohima. In addition, he stated that they must consider the general public’s convenience and that if the location does not permit, one should not be permitted to develop structures close to the road.
Jamir further stated that proper drainage should be maintained and that it should be the civic obligation of every household to maintain the drainage system that runs through their residence, adding that establishing civic awareness will aid in the growth of the community.
The Minister also mentioned the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) minority affairs scheme, under which Mokokchung had submitted a project proposal. He stated that the proposal would be sanctioned project by project based on whatever is regarded most viable by the Central Government.
Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assemble during a brief exhortation said that he was speaking on behalf of his family and that, “In life, the spirit of the living cherish the deeds of the departed” and that “the spirit of the departed cherish the gesture of the living.”
He went on to say that his family’s prayers and hope remained that whatever works the ward authority conducts in the building would be positive and productive.
I. Mar Jamir, Contractor and Convenor, Construction Committee during a brief report of the building lauded the contributions of all the stakeholders. He went on to say that the building was constructed from 2006 with a total cost of Rs. 1,55,52,000.
