Mokokchung, 2 June (MTNews): It was a remarkable day in the history of Mokokchung Friday League (MFL) that witnessed a flurry of goals being scored where each game ended with a score line of 4-3. This shows how competitive the league has become. A total of 21 goals were scored in the three games which included a hat trick – and two own goals.

 

 

More remarkable was the fact that the undefeated Revenant FC was finally beaten by the new entrant Trebuchet FC. This is only the second time that Revenant FC has lost a game since the inception of MFL, their first loss being against Senso SC in Season 1.

 

Shanu opened the account for Revenant FC in the 13th minute but the lead was equalized when Sentiyanger scored an own goal in the 34th minute. Arenlong of Trebuchet FC then scored a brace in both halves of the match in the 35th and 49th minutes.

 

Struggling at 1-3 behind, Revenant FC players showed some nervousness for perhaps the first time in the league and were punished with yet another own goal by Imtimeren in the 53rd minute. However, Revenant players picked themselves up and it looked like they were back in the game when they scored two quick goals through Moakaba and Rongsenchiba in the 61 and 69 minutes. Trebuchet FC managed to hold on to their lead nonetheless as the match ended 4-3.

 

Despite the loss today, Revenant FC nevertheless still sits at the top of the table with a 2 points cushion.

 

Earlier in the day, two-time runners up Senso SC defeated Terokroker FC by 4-3 goals in the first match. Tiaakum scored a hat trick while Tongpangkokba added 1 to the tally for Senso SC. Temsuwati, Tsuktipokba and Akangshilu scored a goal each for Terokroker FC. With four losses and just 1 win, Terokroker FC is languishing at the bottom of the table with just 3 points from 5 games.

 

Meanwhile, New Ecclesia looks to be on an upsurge with back to back wins and looking very sharp. With 9 points, they are in third place with just 1 point behind Trebuchet.

 

Wasang FC drew first blood when Chubayanger scored the first goal of the match in 16 minutes. However, Yimzangluba equalized for New Ecclesia in the 20th minute. Renbi Rangthang gave the lead for New Ecclesia in the 31st minute but Repamayang equalized for Wasang FC just 1 minute later. Chasu then scored for New Ecclesia to give his team the lead for the second time when he scored in the 42nd minute, only to be equalized yet again by Wasang FC through the boots of Chubayanger who completed his brace.

 

With 6 goals being scored in the first half itself, it looked like more goals were coming in the second half too. However, Imsanenba’s goal in the 64th minute for New Ecclesia was the lone goal scored in the second half but enough to give his team a decisive victory. Wasang FC is now placed 5th in the points table, ahead of bottom-placed Terokroker FC on goal difference. Both bottom two teams have 3 points each on the table.
