Mokokchung, 12 April (MTNews): Taking a strong stance against the allegations by the Congress party and “some Christian organizations” that the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) was anti-Christian, Metsübo Jamir, Minister RD & SIRD stated that no party has the moral or divine right to judge and deem the NDPP as anti-Christian.
“He opined that it was blasphemous politics to pass divine judgment, brand and portray fellow Christians as non-believers, to win votes,” a press release issued by the minister’s campaign staff said.
Metsübo Jamir was on a campaign tour in his constituency, 27 Mokokchung Town AC, for the NDPP and PDA consensus candidate Dr Chumben Murry in view of the oncoming Lok Sabha election.
During the campaign trail, he encouraged the party workers to be united and to work sincerely to repeat the successes that were achieved during previous polls.
He reminded the party workers how Congress party divided the Naga people since the time of India’s independence. “1947 was the year Congress under the leadership of Nehru denied Naga independence, and divided the Naga people under two countries, Viz India and Burma,” the press release said.
According to the release, Jamir further reminded the party workers that during the mid-1950s it was the Congress who ordered the American Missionaries based in Nagaland to leave the state immediately to prevent them from preaching the Gospel to the Nagas. He opined whether the church workers have forgotten that part of our church history. The release also said that heinous crimes against Nagas were inflicted by the Congress government during the period of “grouping”.
He further reminded the people that it was during the Congress reign that “Nagas got Statehood instead of independence and taking advantage of our simple ways, the Congress further divided the Nagas and gave our lands to Arunachal, Assam and Manipur.”
The Minister said that through the policies and actions of Congress, it can be stated that, in fact, it was Congress that was anti-Christian and anti-Naga.
NDPP leaders from Central Executive Board and Mokokchung Region also took part in the program, where they questioned the manifesto of the Congress regarding the recognition of LGBTQIA+ and if the Naga church leaders and public consider it as against the teachings of the Bible and asked the churches to clarify on the matter, the press release added.
