The 1st Entry Level Induction Programme for newly recruited assistant professors of the Department of Higher Education, Nagaland, was launched today, simultaneously at Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE), Yimyu, Mokokchung, and State College of Teacher Education (SCTE), Kohima.
Minister of Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along, delivered a virtual inaugural speech to commemorate this milestone in the pursuit of academic excellence.
He began by commending the Principals of SCTE and MCTE for their initiative in inducting the new recruits. He further congratulated the newly recruited assistant professors and extended a warm welcome to them.
The Minister highlighted that Nagaland is currently undergoing a crucial phase in higher education, emphasizing that the actions and contributions of educators today will have significant long-term effects. He noted that teaching goes beyond instruction, playing a key role in fostering critical thinking and intellectual development.
He described teaching as a noble profession, where educators not only impart knowledge but also engage in reciprocal learning, helping shape young minds to become the architects of the nation in every sense.
He urged all educators to continue their tireless efforts in advancing the state’s educational landscape. During this initial phase of induction, senior educators will teach the new recruits methods, strategies, and ways to connect with students, addressing challenges they may encounter throughout their 20–30 year teaching careers. He concluded with an encouraging statement about the immense and boundless impact that teachers have on society.
The resource persons for the programme included faculty members from MCTE and SCTE, with guest faculty from various other colleges leading select sessions.
Day 1 of the programme covered topics such as ‘Four-Year Undergraduate Course: An Overview’ and ‘Teaching as a Profession; Professional Ethics & Accountability.’ Day 2 will focus on ‘Contemporary Approaches to Teaching, Objective-based Question Framing, and Teaching Skills.’
Finally, Day 3 will cover ‘Practice of Skills, Planning and Presenting a Lesson, Office Procedures, and Higher Education Service Rules & Career Progression.’
