Mokokchung, October 12 (MTNews): Expressing concern over the demand for Frontier Nagaland state by ENPO, veteran politician and NDPP MLA, Imkong L Imchen has urged Chief Minister Rio and the State Assembly Speaker to convene a special session on the issue.
Imchen expressed his worries that the decision of the ENPO to boycott the upcoming polls will cause more problems because, according to him, in a house of 60, ENPO has 20 MLAs which is one-third of the house.
“Without their participation, I see more problems than solutions,” he said, and added that if ENPO representatives are there then the demand of ENPO can be discussed.
“Without their participation in the house, how do we discuss on suo moto manner? To me, that is unrealistic. When the real representative of the people is not there in the house, how do we discuss the matter?” he asked.
The MLA further said that although the Assembly’s 13th house session has been rounded up already, the speaker and the CM has discretion to summon the house and, therefore, he urged them to summon the house before the issue gets out of hand.
“Honorable members of the house would like to share our opinions too. The demands must be discussed and then we can try to explore various solutions,” he suggested.
He added that even though the state government and the State Legislative Assembly are not constitutionally competent to grant statehood but, as a legislator, he believes that such things need to be discussed and solutions must be explored.
“Once the Assembly election starts and if we force the ENPO to participate in the election, then it will be unrealistic and irrational,” he concluded. He said this in an interview with Northeast Live channel.
