The Congress Party on Friday declared Yongkongsangla R of Artang Ward as their party candidate for the upcoming ULB election and handed over the ticket to her in a formal program held at 25 Mongoya ACCC Bhavan, Artang Ward.
Toshipokba, former MLA of the 26 Aonglenden Assembly Constituency, stated during the program that “Artang Ward is one of the luckiest.” Despite the disadvantage of being in the opposition, he expressed his gratitude to the people of Artang Ward for their willingness to participate with a Congress ticket.
He commended the ward council and its residents for maintaining a strong relationship with the Congress party. He further added that a Congress victory in the ward is guaranteed, given the results of the recent parliamentary election, and suggested focusing on the necessary improvements in the ward.
He also emphasized the principles of the Congress party: “social justice, equality, empowerment of every individual, inclusivity, and progress,” urging the candidate and party workers to adhere to these principles and bring development to Artang Ward.
In her candidacy declaration speech, Yongkongsangla R stated that if she is elected, during her tenure of leadership, she will raise her voice against any order or system that contradicts the culture and tradition she is rooted in, to safeguard them.
She shared her vision of finding ways and means to support less privileged children by sourcing scholarships. She further added that she plans to provide vocational training to women, empowering them to utilize those skills for self-sustainability, saying that this is one of her key agendas if elected.
She mentioned that Artang Ward has four schools and one Bible College, and given the poor road condition, she shared her vision of prioritizing the improvement of road conditions.
As a candidate from the women reservation allotted wards, she emphasized her obligation to work for the upliftment of women, stating that she will focus on the women in her ward.
Earlier, short speeches were also delivered by Artang Ward authority; the working president, 25 Mongoya ACCC; President, Mahila, 25 Mongoya ACCC; Sanglipong S Pongen Gender Secretary NPYC Org; and Süngratsü Union Mokokchung.
