Keneisenuo Sorhie and Aseno Metha to headline May 1 event organised by Ashipo Society
Chuchuyimlang will host the 3rd edition of the Ashipo Society’s Moatsümung concert on May 1 at 6 pm, continuing efforts to use culture as a bridge between the village and its younger generation. Headlined by Keneisenuo Sorhie and Aseno Mehta, the event will be open to the public with free entry.

The details were shared during a press conference addressed by Ashipo Society president Imlinok, general secretary Kaba Jamir, and members Merentoshi and Temsutemjen, who said the concert aims to provide a platform for young artists.
While Moatsümung celebrations are an annual feature, the organisers said the initiative, now in its third edition, seeks to “uplift youngsters” and promote grassroots talent. They also expressed hope that it will encourage people, especially those living away from the village, to reconnect through shared cultural spaces.

Formed in 2011 and more active since 2024, the Ashipo Society, with seven core members, is also seeking recognition from institutions such as the Task Force for Music & Arts and the Department of Art and Culture for its role in promoting folk and folk-fusion, while expressing interest in expanding into areas like education and entrepreneurship.
The concert, to be graced by DUCCF president Zasivikho Zakiesato as special guest, is part of the wider Moatsümung celebrations organised by the Chuchuyimlang Village Council and Tourism Committee.
Ahead of the event, the society has also launched an online Ao folk and folk-fusion competition with a cash prize of Rs 10,000. Entries close on April 29, and results will be declared on April 30 on their Instagram page. The winner will perform at the concert.
