As the festive season approaches, the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) have issued a public appeal to the business community and people of the district, urging everyone to celebrate responsibly. The chamber cautioned that it is crucial for the community to avoid actions that could lead to heartache due to irresponsibility during the festivities.
The MCCI strongly advised against the selling of calendars, raffle tickets, buffet vouchers, or any similar items or tickets to members of the business community in the market. “Selling of calendars, tickets of any kind, raffle, buffet vouchers, housie, etc., to members of the business community in the market by any entity is strictly prohibited,” the MCCI stated in a press release.
Furthermore, the MCCI also warned against any unsolicited calls, invitations, or requests for donations, whether in cash or kind, from government agencies, NGOs, or any other entities in Mokokchung. “Summoning, informing, calling or inviting members of the business community to seek donations and contributions, whether in cash or kind, by any agency – whether government or NGO – in Mokokchung without the knowledge and consent of MCCI is deemed coercion, which is illegal and therefore not permissible,” the MCCI stated.
The Chamber also cautioned members of the business community against indulging in unfair and unethical business practices, particularly those seeking to take advantage of the festive season. “Any traders found tarnishing the image of the business community by indulging in unfair means of business shall be dealt with stringently,” the chamber warned.
In addition, the MCCI issued a stern reminder against transporting, stocking and selling firecrackers. The chamber also urged all members of the business community to avoid parking their vehicles in front of their shops and establishments so as to make parking spaces available to customers.
