The monthly meeting of the Mokokchung District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) held on Friday discussed key local issues including education, road connectivity and infrastructure, while approving the upgradation of Mary Mead Government Middle School to a Government High School.

The meeting was chaired by MLA and DPDB chairman Nuklutoshi Longkumer at the DC’s Conference Hall, Mokokchung.
On education, the board approved the proposal to upgrade the school serving the Luyong area, which will be forwarded to the Education Department for further action.
In view of the upcoming Dr T Ao Trophy, members discussed the need for road repairs from Sewak Gate to Rempukong Astroturf Ground and decided to take up the matter with the concerned authorities for early intervention.
The board also approved a proposal for construction of a retaining wall at New Market, Arkong Ward, which will be sent to the State Level Planning Department.
During the meeting, Shisalen Riju coaching centre presented a progress report highlighting its activities and achievements, while the Water Resources Department provided an overview of ongoing projects in the district.
The meeting also discussed wildlife and environmental conservation, with members urging public cooperation to protect biodiversity in the district.
The house expressed condolences to Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma on the demise of his mother.
