Mokokchung: Historic first for People’s College as two students rank in NU Top 10

People’s College, Mokokchung, celebrated a ‘Graduation-cum-Felicitation’ programme on Wednesday at the college auditorium with the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, as the guest of honour.

Tongpangmei (BA General, CGPA 7.15) and Vino Awomi (BA General, CGPA 7.04), who secured Top 5 and Top 7 ranks respectively in the recently declared Nagaland University results under the General category, were felicitated along with other successful candidates from the college.

“It is a great achievement and a proud moment for the college, as this is the first time in the history of the college since its inception in 1984,” said the principal, Dr. T. Amongla.

She also informed that the college had achieved a 100% pass rate in 2021, 86.6% in 2022, 100% in 2023, and 91.6% in 2024, with two toppers this year.

While congratulating the toppers and all successful students, the principal extended her gratitude to the faculty, staff, and also the parents and guardians. She encouraged the students to embrace the challenges and opportunities ahead with the same passion and determination they had shown during their college years.

The guest of honour, in his address, congratulated the students and appreciated everyone who contributed to their success. He also expressed hope that the college, now under a new proprietor, would grow into a significant landmark institution in the near future.

To the graduates, he said that society now has high expectations of them, and with that comes greater responsibility. He urged them to give back to society and contribute meaningfully. He advised them to remain humble, plan their lives wisely, gain clarity, read more, stay curious, and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Earlier, Akok Walling, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the college, delivered an exhortation to the students, followed by a special number presented by college students. Tongpangmei also delivered his graduation speech.
