Mokokchung, 27 July (MTNews): In a momentous event on 27 September 2023, Jubilee Memorial College embraced the spirit of World Tourism Day with a remarkable gathering organized by the YUVA Tourism Club, JMC. The occasion was graciously hosted by Miss Tsüngrosenla Jamir, Assistant Professor, who eloquently highlighted the importance of preserving cultural heritage and traditions in the realm of tourism.

Before this grand celebration, the YUVA Tourism Club at Jubilee Memorial College hosted a story writing competition themed, ‘From Roots to Routes: Safeguarding Culture and Traditions in Tourism.’ The competition garnered overwhelming participation from 33 talented students, all striving to raise awareness about the significance of preserving our cultural identity during tourism experiences.

 

The eagerly awaited results of the competition were announced by Akumyala, Vice Principal of Jubilee Memorial College, with three exceptional students claiming the top honors. Mr Tiasunep Aier (Semester III) secured the First Position, receiving a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 3000. Ms Easter (Semester III) claimed the Second Position, earning a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 2000 while Ms Ketinenla Amlari (Semester V) clinched the Third Position and was rewarded with a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 1000. This competition served as a platform to enhance students’ knowledge and understanding of preserving their cultural identity through their heritage and traditions within the context of tourism.

Following the program, members of the YUVA Tourism Club actively engaged in a Swachhta Pakhwada (Cleanliness Drive) from the college premises to Milak Junction. The dedicated team was divided into groups, diligently collecting litter along the way. After the fulfilling activity, the YUVA Tourism Club members, accompanied by their teachers in charge, indulged in a well-deserved light refreshment.

 

The commemoration of World Tourism Day at Jubilee Memorial College not only showcased the college’s commitment to promoting tourism but also emphasized the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage and traditions. It served as a reminder to all attendees of the immense value that lies in preserving their unique identities while exploring the wonders of tourism.
