Jubilee Memorial College, Mokokchung, organized a one-day Career Guidance Program aimed at equipping students with practical insights into career planning, competitive examinations, and sustainable livelihood opportunities. The event was initiated by the College’s Career and Counselling Committee and featured two insightful sessions with expert guest speakers.

Neithozo Theunuo | Bendangonen Jamir

The first session featured Neithozo Theunuo, EAC, Mokokchung, who spoke on the theme “Navigating Opportunities in Career and Competitive Exams.” He elaborated on career paths within the Central Services Examinations and the Nagaland Public Service Commission, particularly for students from humanities backgrounds. Drawing from his own journey, he stressed the importance of early, focused preparation: “Quality is better than quantity,” he stated, advising students to prioritize understanding the syllabus and analyzing past years’ question papers over collecting numerous study materials. He concluded by encouraging students to remain hardworking and perseverant and to always have a contingency plan. This was followed by a question-and-answer session, where he addressed the students’ queries with clarity and insight.

Session II was led by Bendangonen Jamir, Mission Director of Chuchuyimlang Baptist Church and a successful entrepreneur. His session was based on the theme “Sustainable Livelihood, Empowering Skills, and Self-Employment.”

Jamir spoke on the value of Christian entrepreneurship, distinguishing it from profit-centric business models. “Worldly entrepreneurship is driven by the desire for profit, while Christian entrepreneurship aims to serve others,” he emphasized. He underscored the significance of determination, hard work, persistence, and proper coaching in building a meaningful and sustainable career. “Sustainability means aligning one’s skills with local needs,” he remarked.

He encouraged the students to explore niche markets and engage in organic production, recognizing the unique socio-economic context of Nagaland. He introduced several central government schemes such as PMKVY and NSRLM, which subsidize skill-based training programs up to 80–100%, and schemes under PMEGP that offer startup allowances. “Be adventurous, work with like-minded people, explore with purpose, get ideas, replicate, and start manufacturing,” he urged. Sharing his experience in the livestock sector and his enterprise, Sungdi Wood Product, he advised aspiring entrepreneurs to embrace risk, document their progress, learn from failures, and stay motivated.
