Season 4 of the Kiyonger Futsal League opened at Asameya Futsal Turf, Yimyu Ward, Mokokchung, on Monday, with six teams taking part in the competition organised exclusively for the youth of Sangtemla Ward, Mokokchung.
Renben Kikon, Inspector at the District Industries Centre (DIC), Mokokchung, attended the opening ceremony as the special guest.
The number of participating teams has increased from four in the previous season to six this year. With 10 players registered in each team, the league features 60 players.
League matches will be played every Friday, with each team scheduled to face the other five teams three times. The format will produce a total of 45 league matches before the final, which is scheduled for October 30.
The tournament is being organised by a group of football enthusiast from Sangtemla Ward. According to the organisers, the league was initiated to engage young people in healthy activities, encourage them to stay away from substance abuse and promote sports and fitness.
The organisers also said the league provides an avenue for senior players and football enthusiasts to remain active and maintain their fitness through regular competition.
The venue for the tournament is Asameya Futsal Turf in Yimyu Ward, near the Khensa village gate, Mokokchung.
Besides the championship title, individual awards will be presented for Player of the Tournament, Highest Scorer and Best Goalkeeper.
