Mokokchung: LKM pushes smart farming, economic independence for youth

The Langpangkong Students’ Conference (LKM) has resolved to make smart farming a major focus to encourage and attract students and youth to the food production sector, with the aim of achieving economic independence and enabling the younger generation to bring positive change in society.

The newly appointed team of LKM officers praying for God’s guidance after taking the oath on January 9, during the general conference at Momgsenyimti.

The resolution seeks guidance and support from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Agricultural Science Centre), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), and the Agriculture and Allied Departments of the Government of Nagaland to guide students and youth to become smart farmers and agripreneurs.

The resolution was unanimously adopted, among others, during the LKM general conference held at Mongsenyimti village on January 8 and 9, 2026, under the theme “Rekindling Legacy”.

The LKM also resolved to identify important historical places associated with significant events from ancestral and modern times and to preserve them in every village under Langpangkong range, with the objective of developing the entire area into a tourist circuit.

The students’ body further decided to continue observing World Environment Day in the first week of June every year by cleaning ancestral wells and rivers across all villages in Langpangkong.

Another key resolution was to develop and manage a “Study Space” in every village and town under LKM’s jurisdiction for students and job aspirants in various fields. The initiative is expected to be implemented collectively with respective churches and local authorities.

The conference also decided to organise a Pre-Teachers’ Day programme in the first week of September each year, bringing together teachers from across Langpangkong to honour them and discuss issues related to education.
Reiterating its commitment to electoral reforms, the LKM resolved to continue its Clean Election campaign in Langpangkong range to promote the principle of “My Vote, My Right” by discouraging the use of money and muscle power and encouraging free and fair participation of citizens in the electoral process.

On the final day of the two-day conference, a symposium was held on the topics “Economic Independence” and “Leveraging Technology and AI for a Smarter Future”, with K Temjen Jamir, Editor and Publisher of Tir Yimyim, and Er Lanuwabang, Director, NIELIT, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, as resource persons.

A Pangjung Jamir, Advisor for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Government of Nagaland, attended as a special invitee and exhorted students to become productive citizens. Greetings were delivered by Ao Students’ Conference president Lanutoshi Aier, Japukong Students’ Conference president A Mangyang, and Tzürangkong Students’ Conference president Pangertoba.

Special numbers were presented by T Sentiyala Ozüküm and Langpangkong Watsü Telungjem. The symposium session was presided over by Washimong Sadem Longkumer and moderated by Imnatula Jamir.

In the concluding session, Ao Senden president Marsanen and Langpangkong Tzükong Mungdang president N Watitoshi exhorted the gathering. The vote of thanks was proposed by Local Planning Committee convenor Imotong and LKM Planning Committee convenor Lanu Pongen.

The conference also nominated its new team of office bearers, with Tzüwasanen Jamir as president, Merenkümzük as vice president, Walunir as general secretary, Shiluyatet as assistant general secretary, Sujimong as games and sports secretary, Imnasüngküm as assistant games and sports secretary, Talisunep as cultural secretary, and Agumtoshi as finance secretary.
