Longchem, 5 February (MTNews): The residents of Longchem town under Mangkolemba Sub-Division, Mokokchung district have voiced their dissatisfaction with the Government of Nagaland and the staff posted there for neglecting the town’s needs, resulting in a lack of progress on crucial matters. According to a press release from the Longchem Adhoc Town Committee, an amount of Rs 7.75 lakhs were allocated for the construction of foot steps in Longchem under LADP, the final withdrawal of which was done on 6 April 2021. However, the construction of footsteps has yet to commence.
Furthermore, a Work Order dated 22 December 2022, amounting to Rs 48,59,326, was issued by the Directorate of Tribal Affairs, Government of Nagaland, to M/S Zenith Enterprise for the construction of internal roads in Longchem. The work on this project has not yet begun either, it was informed.
The press release also highlighted the lack of response from government staff stationed in Longchem, despite constant reminders from NGOs and the Longchem Adhoc Town Committee.
Consequently, the public held a general meeting following which it urged the contractor/firm to start the construction works promptly. Failure to do so, the committee cautioned, may compel the public to take “concrete measures for its fulfillment.”
The Longchem Town Public General Meeting was held on 3rd February 2024 where various other issues of the town were also discussed.
