Queen Mary Higher Secondary School celebrated National Mathematics Day on Monday, commemorating the contributions of renowned Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. The event aimed to inspire students to develop a deeper appreciation and understanding of mathematics.
The program began with an informative session on Ramanujan’s life and groundbreaking work in number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions, highlighting his lasting impact on modern mathematics.
A series of engaging activities followed, including an inter-school quiz and problem-solving competitions, where students from different grade levels showcased their mathematical skills and creativity.
“We believe that National Mathematics Day is an excellent opportunity to foster a passion for mathematics among students and help them see its relevance in everyday life,” said Mr. Vinod Kumar, Vice-Principal, Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung. “Srinivasa Ramanujan’s life and work serve as an inspiration to all, showing that determination and a love for learning can lead to extraordinary achievements.”
A special math exhibition was also featured, where students presented projects exploring various mathematical concepts and their real-world applications.
A total of eight schools from Mokokchung participated in the inter-school math quiz. The host school, Queen Mary Hr. Sec. School, secured the first prize, while Straight Way Hr. Sec. School claimed the second prize.
The event concluded with the announcement of winners across various competitions, with certificates and cash prizes awarded to top performers.
