Police engage area council and village leaders as district-wide patrolling continues
Police have intensified vigilance across Mokokchung district, with community-level meetings and increased patrolling being undertaken to check the supply and sale of alcohol and drugs.
According to an update from the police, in Tuli, the SDPO held an interaction with the Chairman, Secretary and a member of the Tuli Area Joint Council Forum on the recent liquor-poisoning issue, Inner Line Permit (ILP), tenant application and other issues concerning the Tuli area.
Meanwhile, the Officer-in-Charge of Longtho Police Station held a meeting with the Village Council Chairmen and Gaon Buraahs of 13 villages under Longtho Police Station. The village authorities were briefed to remain vigilant against the supply and sale of alcohol and drugs and to share information with the police.
Police also stated that intensive patrolling and vehicle checking are continuing across the district through all police stations.
The intensified measures come amid a wider police crackdown following suspected spurious-liquor deaths in Mokokchung district. Eight deaths had been reported in the district by September 26, while police had formed a Special Investigation Team to trace the source and supply chain of the suspected adulterated liquor. Multiple raids had also resulted in arrests and seizure of suspected illicit liquor.
