The Department of Power, Government of Nagaland has made electricity billing fully online for consumers under Mokokchung Town, enabling bill payments from home without visiting the electrical office, according to a press release issued by the Office of the Executive Engineer, Mokokchung Electrical Division.
The department informed that the online billing system has come into effect this month. Consumers can pay their electricity bills through the Department of Power Nagaland portal at www.dopn.gov.in or via Google Pay by selecting Electricity Bill, choosing Department of Power Nagaland, entering the 11-digit consumer number, linking the account, checking the amount, and confirming payment.
The department also announced the availability of Residential Rooftop Solar systems under the flagship scheme “PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana”, launched by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, on February 29, 2024.
According to the press release, residential electricity consumers under the IT-based billing system can avail central and state government subsidies of up to ₹1.35 lakh for rooftop solar installations in IT-enabled towns of Nagaland.
“The scheme aims to empower residential households to generate their own electricity through solar energy, thereby reducing dependence on grid supply and lowering monthly electricity bills,” the department stated. It added that consumers would benefit by importing less electricity from the grid and that excess power generated could be exported through net metering. In such cases, the credited energy could result in nil electricity consumption charges.
The Department of Power, Nagaland will act as the state implementing agency for the program across the state.
Interested consumers have been advised to apply online through the Nagaland Portal for Rooftop Solar at www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
The notification was issued for general information and public awareness of electricity consumers in Nagaland.
