Mokokchung, 16 September (MTNews): With dengue fever gripping parts of Nagaland, particularly Mon and Dimapur districts, medical authorities in Mokokchung are exercising adequate precautionary measures for public safety and health.
Chief Medical Officer of Mokokchung, Dr. Kibangkumba, confirmed that dengue fever is overwhelming Mon district, so much so that a senior doctor, two nurses, and a lab technician have been dispatched from Mokokchung to help. He also confirmed that dengue fever is also gripping Dimapur district.
While dengue fever is not as prevalent in Mokokchung, the CMO said that all necessary precautionary measures are being undertaken.
On being asked whether there are any confirmed cases of dengue fever in Mokokchung, the CMO said that a few cases have so far been detected in Mokokchung, most of whom were “returnees from Dimapur.” He also said that an entomological team is also closely monitoring the situation.
While stating that the public in general are aware of the modes of transmission of dengue fever, he nonetheless reiterated that “prevention is better than cure.” Given that the disease is transmitted through infected mosquitoes, he advised people to take measures to avoid mosquito bites, especially during the evening and morning hours.
