Continuing the Moatsümung celebration, the Japukong Senso Senden (JSS) organized a grand Moatsü program at Longchem Amphi theatre with Minister of State for Minority Affairs, John Barla as the chief guest and Minister of Tribal Affairs, GoN Temjen Imna Along Longkumer as the chief host. On the same day, John Barla also inaugurated the Amphitheatre for Cultural & Tribal Utility Centre, Longchem town, Mokokchung district, the venue of today’s Moatsümung celebration. The amphitheatre had been funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, GoI.

 

 

Speaking at the Moatsümung festival, the Chief Guest, MoS for Minority Affairs, John Barla, appreciated the people for the warm welcome accorded to him. He also expressed his deep admiration for the Naga culture and attire and lauded the Naga people for preserving their culture and traditions.

 

He also promised to construct a community hall at Longchem town. He also promised to construct a residential school for the underprivileged where every aspect of schooling will be covered free of cost for the students.

 

Guest of Honour, Temjen Imna Along, while speaking at the program, called for unity of the people and preservation of culture by the people. While thanking the government of India for “giving” the amphitheater, Along said that he has never seen such a big Moatsümung festival being celebrated at Japukong and said that it shows a new strength which must go on.

 

Also calling on the preservation of culture and traditions, Along said that the only heritage of the people is “our tradition, culture, identity.” He, therefore, called upon the people of Japukong to march together ahead in this 21st century in unity.

 

Meanwhile, the welcome speech was delivered by Imdong Jamir, President of Japukong Senso Senden while N. Nungsang Longkumer elucidated the meaning of Moatsü festival. A goodwill message and cultural extravaganza was presented by Assam-Nagaland Border Peace Coordination Committee.

 

Cultural songs were presented by Lirmen village council, Changdang village council. Traditional dances were presented by Japu, Lakhuni and Aonokpu villages. Traditional fire making presented by Longjemdang village while the Satsükba village, Nokpu village councils presented a traditional tug-of-war. Vote of thanks was delivered by Chubatoshi, Convener of Planning Committee. The program was compered by Helen Ao and Moanungsang from Dimapur.
