Lok Sabha MP Supongmeren has expressed deep sorrow following the landslide on NH 29 in Pherima, which resulted in multiple fatalities. He conveyed his sympathy to the grieving families, saying, “My heart goes out to the bereaved families during this difficult time.”
Supongmeren acknowledged the profound loss, stating, “Words cannot adequately express the sorrow we all feel. My sincere thoughts and prayers are with you. May God grant you the strength to bear this loss.”
In closing, he expressed solidarity with those affected: “At this hour of pain, we stand together with you. May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.”
BJP Nagaland President Benjamin Yepthomi also expressed profound shock over the tragic landslide on the night of September 3, 2024.
Yepthomi, speaking on behalf of BJP Nagaland, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a swift recovery for those injured. He praised the response of Chief Minister Rio, who convened a ‘High Level Committee Meeting’ on September 4, 2024. The meeting, attended by Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton and Minister-in-Charge of National Highway TR Zeliang, along with other officials, led to the announcement of ex-gratia payments to the victims’ families and financial aid for the injured.
The BJP leader also commended the efforts of the Pherima Village Youth, police personnel, and disaster response forces for their prompt action in recovering the bodies and assisting those affected. “ Your prompt action in retrieving the bodies of the deceased and extending a helping hand to those affected has truly exhibited the passion of the human spirit in times of crisis. Your sacrifices are highly appreciated. God bless you,” Yepthomi said.
Additionally, Yepthomi urged the NHIDCL to implement immediate rectification measures, including the deployment of advanced technology and machinery, to prevent such disasters in the future.
