Mokokchung, 26 December (MTNews): Several Naga youth organizations across Chümoukedima and Dimapur have strongly condemned the extortion demand of Rs 50 lakh made against renowned Naga innovator and social entrepreneur Aolemba Longkumer. Following an emergency meeting and press conference, the youth leaders collectively criticized the actions of the NSCN (Khango) and demanded swift action.
The youth organizations noted that Longkumer has not only won several accolades both in the State and National levels but also has been a pioneer in exporting Naga handicraft.
The youth organizations have demanded that the NSCN (Khango) should immediately hand over the “two transgressors to the appropriate authority at the earliest, through the intervention of the Chairman of the Ceasefire Monitoring Group (CFMG) and also the Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB).”
In a joint statement, the organizations expressed dismay at the actions of the Naga Political Group (NPG) that claims to follow the motto “Nagaland for Christ.” They labeled the extortion demand as a “diabolical tactic in forcefully trying to extort a huge amount of fifty lakhs under false allegations” that contradicts Christian principles, especially during the festive season.
“ For too long Nagas has been suffering under the bondage of excessive extortion by multiple NPGs. The future of the Naga youths cannot be marred and doomed due to the self interest of few selfish individuals and groups and we will no longer be mute spectators,” the statement read.
The youth leaders stated that the “simmering anger of the united Naga youths,” particularly from the erstwhile undivided Dimapur, would now be expressed through democratic means to safeguard citizens’ rights at the appropriate time.
The statement was signed by representatives of various organizations, including:
- Khrozote Kapdo – Convenor, Coordination Action Committee
