Educators, school leaders, EBRC representatives and district officials from Mon and Peren districts recently participated in the A.C.E. (Awareness, Communication and Empathy) Leadership and Transformative Teaching Workshops organised by NagaEd under the District Empowerment Programme (DEP).

NagaEd workshops focus on reflective leadership and empathy in schools

The workshop in Peren was held on May 8, with 26 participants representing schools and education offices across the district, while the Mon session followed on May 15.

The sessions focused on empathy, communication, self-awareness, leadership and understanding different personality types within school environments. Through interactive exercises, reflection activities and group discussions, participants explored how reflective leadership and stronger interpersonal understanding can improve school environments.

Speaking about the initiative, Livi Chishi, Facilitator and Senior Manager, Learning, Design and Excellence at NagaEd, said, “Leadership in schools is not only about systems or administration. It is about how people communicate, build trust, resolve conflict, and create environments where both teachers and students feel understood.”

Participants highlighted the practical value of the workshops. Chichano Ngullie, Principal of GHSS Ahthibung, said, “The session on different personality types helped me understand my personality better and also the different personality types around me.”

Izaibamle Nchang, EBRC Tening, added that the workshop improved understanding of “leadership, empathy, and decision-making.”

The workshops formed part of broader efforts to strengthen people-centred learning environments across Nagaland. Under the three-year DEP initiative, 14 schools in Mon and Peren have already received infrastructure support, including WASH facilities, STEM labs and libraries.
