The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CNCCI) has informed that it will go ahead with the proposed “All Nagaland Indefinite Shutter Down” from Saturday, 27 April, as there has been no positive response from the State government in addressing the concerns raised by the business community.

In a letter addressed to its confederating units, CNCCI chairman Dr Khekugha Muru, and General Secretary Dr Seyievilie Mor, have instructed to ensure shutter down in their respective districts.

Banking establishments, educational institutions, government offices, and all medical-related activities may be kept outside the purview of the shutter down, CNCCI informed.

The shutter-down call was first given by the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) in protest against extortion by underground groups. The DCCI said the decision was taken as there was ‘no end in sight to the unabated multiple taxation, intimidation, and summons’ by the Naga political groups. DCCI imposed the indefinite shutdown from Friday.

Kohima and Chümoukedima also imposed a 12-hour shutdown in solidarity with the DCCI on Friday.

All the district business bodies in Nagaland as well as various civil society organizations has extended support to the DCCI.

MCCI informed that all shops and business establishments in Mokokchung district are to remain closed from 27 April 2024 (Saturday), until further instructions.

Banking establishments, educational institutions, government offices, and all medical-related activities are exempted from the purview of the shutter-down protest as instructed by CNCCI.

MCCI has requested the public and all concerned to extend cooperation to the business community and bear with any inconveniences for the larger interest of society.
