Ten Nagaland Civil Service (NCS) probationers of the 2025 batch began their Bharat Darshan attachment at the Anna Administrative Staff College in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on October 26, with a five-day programme focused on governance and best practices in rural development, agriculture and social welfare.
The opening sessions covered the functioning of various departments, including Agriculture, Social Welfare and Women Empowerment, and Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, highlighting practices that could be adapted for implementation in Nagaland.
Tamil Nadu’s achievements under the VB-G RAM G scheme, formerly MGNREGS, were presented, including high person-day generation, women’s participation and convergence with other funding programmes. Works such as farm ponds, check dams, plantations and nurseries were also highlighted.
The Agriculture Department showcased its Uzhavar digital portal, which provides farmers with services and information, alongside the soil health card initiative to help farmers assess soil conditions and identify suitable crops.
The probationers were also introduced to welfare initiatives, including the Pudhumai Penn Scheme for female higher-education students, the Cradle Baby Scheme, transgender welfare programmes and Anbucholai day-care centres for senior citizens.
The trainees will next visit another district for practical exposure to rural development. Further attachments are scheduled at YASHADA in Pune and in New Delhi.
