Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio inaugurated several landmark initiatives at the IDAN Capital Convention Centre, Kohima, on November 27, 2024. These projects aim to propel the state towards innovation, economic progress, and a stronger tourism ecosystem.

Tourism Enhancements
Rio unveiled Ura Cabs, an app-based taxi service designed to bridge gaps in tourism and transportation. He described it as a significant milestone for Nagaland, ensuring a seamless booking experience for tourists while offering stable livelihoods to local taxi owners.

Under the Nagaland Tourism Connect initiative, a fleet of branded vehicles—including 20-seater buses, Tata Wingers, Kia Carens, and Toyota Innovas—was flagged off. These vehicles aim to showcase Nagaland’s cultural identity and provide visitors with a superior travel experience.

Additionally, tourism stakeholders such as guides, homestay operators, taxi drivers, and tourism police have undergone specialized …training to enhance services during the upcoming 25th Hornbill Festival and beyond.

Economic Empowerment and Logistics

The launch of the Nagaland Logistics Connect initiative is set to boost the state’s commercial infrastructure by offering entrepreneurs up to a 42% subsidy on vehicle purchases under the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative (CMMFI). Entrepreneurs will also benefit from a 12% manufacturer discount, fostering business growth in logistics and transportation.

Rio emphasized the government’s commitment to training local mechanics to manage advanced BS-6 vehicle technology, ensuring modern infrastructure reaches remote areas.

Agriculture and Financial Security
In a first for India, Nagaland introduced Digital Piggery Insurance, developed in partnership with the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) and Tata AIG. This app-based platform streamlines registration and claim processing for livestock farmers, reducing costs and ensuring inclusivity in remote areas.

The Chief Minister’s Universal Life Insurance Scheme was also launched to provide financial security to families against unforeseen tragedies, underlining the government’s focus on social welfare.

Hornbill Festival Preparation
As Nagaland prepares to host the 25th edition of the internationally acclaimed Hornbill Festival, Rio urged stakeholders to demonstrate Naga hospitality and efficiency. He called for collective efforts to build a robust tourism ecosystem and affirmed that these initiatives reflect the state’s commitment to empowering local communities and enhancing its national profile.

Dignitaries Highlight State Progress
Advisor to the Chief Minister and Chairman of IDAN, Abu Metha, emphasized the role of IDAN in bridging development gaps across Nagaland. He highlighted opportunities in homestays, cold storage, and innovation hubs while stressing sustainability and the untapped potential of Naga youth.

Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along underscored the importance of embracing modern opportunities and positioning Nagaland at the forefront of the nation. He encouraged citizens to become equal stakeholders in the state’s progress.

Chief General Manager of SBI Guwahati, S. Radhakrishnan, spoke on the immense opportunities in tourism, particularly during the Hornbill Festival, through collaborations with countries like Japan, Peru, Wales, and the United States.

Chief Secretary Dr. J. Alam highlighted Nagaland’s economic growth, with the state GDP growing at 6.5% and per capita income increasing by 11.2%. He praised the Chief Minister’s visionary leadership and the IDAN team’s innovative efforts, which are set to transform the state’s future.

Significant Milestones
The event also marked the culmination of extensive capacity-building programs for homestays, tour guides, and tourist taxi drivers. Beneficiaries of the Chief Minister’s Universal Life Insurance Scheme (CMLIS) received financial assistance, and a tourism directory booklet was launched to support the sector’s growth.

These initiatives collectively showcase Nagaland’s innovative spirit and commitment to sustainable development while empowering local communities and elevating its stature on national and global stages. (With DIPR inputs)
