Mokokchung, 6 November (MTNews): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has come out strongly against the state government for its inaction on two issues, namely the non-payment of poll duty dues to commercial vehicle owners and the failure to hand over the ex gratia payment it announced for the eight deceased victims of a tragic accident that occurred in Kandinu on September 20, 2023.

In a press release issued today, the NPCC expressed deep concern over the Chakka Bandh (bandh) imposed by commercial vehicle owners in Mokokchung, Tuensang, Zunheboto, Phek, Peren, and Longleng districts due to the non-payment of poll duty dues. The party pointed out that the bandh has caused significant hardship to the movement of goods and people, particularly in areas that are already facing logistical challenges.

The NPCC also slammed the state government for its failure to disburse the ex gratia payment to the families of the Kandinu accident victims. “It is a matter of great sadness and collective shame that we find ourselves being necessitated to remind the govt to uphold its promise,” the NPCC said.

“Both the issues highlighted by us herein could have been easily addressed without having had to cause so much distress, with the most basic of interventions expected of any elected government,” the NPCC stated in its press release.

The party also said that it can only hope and pray that the government of the day would “somehow find within itself the ethical and moral wherewithal to aspire for a little bit more than they do now.”
