The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has expressed serious concern over the recent transfer notifications issued by the Department of Personnel & Administrative Reforms (Personnel ‘A’ Branch), Government of Nagaland, on Sunday, April 13, 2025 — which coincided with Palm Sunday, a significant day for Christians.

In a press statement issued by its Communications Department, the NPCC said that the two notifications — Notification No. PAR-4/6/2020/B and Notification No. PAR-4/6/2020/A — “set a worrying precedent as this is the first time transfer orders have been issued on a Sunday in our state since it attained statehood in 1963.”

Highlighting the religious sentiment attached to the day, the NPCC noted, “The fact that the day also happened to be Palm Sunday, a day that holds huge religious and cultural importance for Christians all over the world, lends the government’s move all the more insensitive.”

Calling for greater sensitivity from the government, the NPCC urged the State authorities to “act with more empathy, and not allow the governance of Nagaland to be influenced by Hindutva ideology or the policies of the RSS, which are far removed from the beliefs and values of the Naga people.”

The Congress unit further demanded that the government “withdraw or review the said notifications” and ensure that such actions “do not become a trend” in the future.
