Mokokchung, 21 April (MTNews): Nagaland Cricket Association has announced that the Inter-District Senior Men’s (One Day Matches) Tournament 2024 and the Boys Under-16 (Multi Days) Inter-District Tournament 2024 will both commence in the month of April and extend till May.
The Senior Men’s Inter-District Tournament will be played from 23 April till 7 May 2024 at Nagaland Cricket Stadium and Sovima Cricket Ground, while the Boys Under-16 (Multi Days) Inter-District Tournament will be played from 25 April till May 2024.
For the first time in the Boys Under-16 category, the Inter-District Tournament will be held in three different venues across Nagaland, encompassing three districts. Peren District will host Group-A comprising Peren, Chumoukedima, and Niuland. Kohima District will host Group-B with teams from Kohima, Dimapur, and Tseminyu, while Mokokchung District will host Group-C with teams from Mokokchung, Wokha, and Zunheboto. The tournament will follow the multi-day format in accordance with the playing conditions of the BCCI. The top teams from each group will advance to the next round at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima.
In another development for Nagaland Cricket, the Men’s Senior Inter-District Tournament 2024 will be played in the One Day Matches format (50 overs). Additionally, for the first time, the bottom 7 teams, as per past tournament records, will compete in qualifying rounds among themselves. The winners from these rounds will then proceed to the final rounds against the top 6 District teams.
The teams participating in the qualifying rounds are Zunheboto, Mon, and Kiphire in Group-A, while Group-B comprises Phek, Tseminyu, Longleng, and Peren. The winners from both qualifying groups will advance to the final rounds, where they will join the top 6 district teams.
For the final rounds, Group-A will consist of Mokokchung, Kohima, Dimapur, and the winner of Qualifier Group-A. In Group-B, there will be Niuland, Wokha, Chumoukedima, and the winner of Qualifier Group-B.
With the progress of Nagaland Cricket and the opportunity to represent the state in various formats of Domestic Cricket under the keen observation of BCCI, the players will be under surveillance and closely monitored by the selectors of NCA. They will select from among the many talents in the districts, who will then be shortlisted and called for selection trials and to attend various camps under professional coaches within and outside the state for the upcoming seasons, the NCA through its honourary secretary Hyunilo Anilo Khing informed.
