Nagaland cricketers Hem Chetri and Neizekho Rupreo have been awarded the prestigious MA Chidambaram Trophy for their exceptional performances in the Col CK Nayudu Trophy (U-23) – Plate Group, the Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) announced on Sunday.
Hem Chetri was recognized as the highest run-scorer in the tournament, amassing 521 runs at an average of 43.4, which included two centuries and two half-centuries. His consistency and ability to anchor innings under various conditions played a key role in his success, the NCA said.
Neizekho Rupreo, on the other hand, was awarded for his exceptional bowling performance, finishing as the highest wicket-taker with 47 wickets in just seven matches, including six five-wicket hauls. His ability to deliver match-winning spells highlights his skill and potential as a frontline bowler, the NCA stated.
“The achievements of Hem Chetri and Neizekho Rupreo mark a significant milestone for Nagaland Cricket, reflecting the growing potential and competitiveness of the state in domestic cricket. Their performances serve as an inspiration for young cricketers in Nagaland and beyond,” the NCA stated.
While Hem Chetri received the award in person, NCA Honorary Secretary Hyunilo Anilo Khing accepted the award on Rupreo’s behalf.
The Nagaland Cricket Association congratulated both players and reiterated its commitment to nurturing talent and promoting cricket in the state.
