Chümoukedima, 18 March (MTNews): Director General of Police Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, stated that in continuation of the Nagaland Government’s War against Drugs, the Nagaland Police continues its statewide efforts in all districts of Nagaland to combat the widespread availability and usage of synthetic drugs and psychotropic substances.

Addressing the media on 16 March at the Rhododendron Hall, Police Complex, Chumoukedima, Sharma said that intensive checking of vehicles (MVCP), raids, and checks of hotels, restaurants, etc., have been launched to prevent any such illegal activity.

He asserted that combating the drug menace is not only the responsibility of the police but also requires the cooperation of all citizens. He further appealed to the general public to provide information on the sale/distribution of any form of narcotics/drugs/IMFL, etc., to the nearest Police Station or Narcotic Police Station, PHQ, Nagaland through the ‘MADEIN’ Mobile App. The identity of the informant shall be kept confidential.

The DGP also warned sellers of SIM cards to be aware that many traffickers were using fake identity cards to procure SIM cards.

The DGP also disclosed the arrests, seizures, recoveries, and registration of cases for the past three months, from 1 December 2023 to 10 March 2024. The following recoveries, seizures, arrests, and registration of cases were made: A total of 48 NDPS cases were registered and 122 persons were arrested which included 98 males and 24 females. Seizures included Ganja – 475.719 kgs; Heroin – 3 kg 700 gms 30 mg; Yaba – 589 tabs; Crystal meth and others – 346 gms; Brown sugar – 366 mgs 86 mg; Spasmo (SP) – 4793 caps; Simplex – 1664 caps; Nitrozolam – 160 tabs; Cough syrup – 2468 bottles; Alprazolam – 290 strips + 3410 tabs; Tramao – 1144 caps; others – 3 taps OST + 31 tabs, (Spamoil) + 7 tabs (Spamodart). The Nagaland Police have also detained 12 accused under the PITNDPS Act 1988.

Nagaland Police IGP (CID) Vikram Khalate and CP Dimapur K Sophie also gave a brief report on NDPS Act and drugs-related registered cases and arrested individuals in Dimapur.
