The Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services, Nagaland, has made it mandatory for buildings seeking No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to provide dedicated fire-fighting water storage tanks made of concrete, masonry or steel.
According to a circular dated October 15, 2026, the provision allowing Sintex or other plastic water storage tanks for fire-fighting and life-safety requirements in existing buildings seeking NOCs has been discontinued with immediate effect.
The circular stated that wherever dedicated fire-fighting water storage tanks made of plastic or Sintex have been installed, they must be replaced with concrete, masonry or steel tanks that meet the prescribed storage capacity requirements.
The required capacity will be determined by the inspection officers concerned in accordance with applicable norms.
The Directorate has also directed Officers-in-Charge (OCs) not to forward cases for NOCs unless the prescribed water storage facilities are provided using the approved materials.
The circular stated that the revised requirements would take effect immediately from the date of notification.
